on the banks of Nike Lake in Enugu, the center of Nigeria`s
coal-mining region and the capital of Enugu State. It is a typical
sprawling Igboland city of nearly 500 000 inhabitants (the state
having 3.361 million inhabitants) is of limited interest to
pure leisure travellers, but rather more interesting to the
corporate GUEST. The hotel was previously the headquarters for
the Igbo (Biafran) Army in the tragic civil war and was fortunate
to survive pretty much intact. Nike, mean "with power"
in the local Igbo language, is reminiscent of the past.
The city`s main street, running roughly north-east to south-west,
is Okpara Avenue, along which are many businesses, banks and
the post office nearby. |
